ODIN Review

Odin said it succeeded, after reboot i get nothing but constant errors that “unfortunately “insert process here” has stopped working. After clicking ok on a bunch of them, it basically repeats the unfortunately touchwiz has stopped working. If i try to get into settings then i get unfortunately settings has stopped working.

The best way to be sure that our important data is safe is to create a backup of the partition where Windows is located and, although it can seem to be a bit difficult, we can assure that it's very easy if use an application such as ODIN.

This lite application can save an image of the partition of the disc you choose. The configuration settings allow you to modify the behaviour of the program, for example you can choose to save only the used blocks or all of them, choose the compression format (GZip or BZip2) or if the image will be only one file or if it will be divided into parts of certain MBs.

When you'll want to restore the image of the disc you'll only have to press the restore button and choose the folder where the file is located.

(Solved) - DWM.exe and Driver Update Issue

Odin downloader has stopped working windows 8 free(14 posts)

My Windows Aero has stopped working on my machine and I have been unable to fix the problem. The Aero does not work any more, it all started when I updated my graphics card driver to its latest version using a program known as SlimDrivers, after the update and a reboot, the transparency was gone and I am unable to change my theme to one which has aero enabled. It just looks like the view of Windows 7 Starter, no aero effects and so on. I did not, unfortunately, make a system restore point, I often do but this was the one time I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to make one.

If I go into the Control Panel to change the desktop background or aero settings it reads at the bottom, 'Troubleshoot problems with transparency and other aero effects'. I have run the troubleshooter many times and the report it gives back is that the DWM isn't working, so I go to services to see if its stopped and it hasn't, apparently the service is running fine. I have restarted the service many times without any change. I tried CMD commands to turn it off and on (didn't know if it would make any real difference), net start uxsms then net start uxsms. Nothing. Still the same issue.

The issue is irritating me now as I cannot find out a way to end the problem. Windows says the DWM isn't on but at the same time it tells me it's running. I considered repairing Windows with a Installation CD but I don't own a Windows 7 Professional CD. If that is indeed the only way to fix the problem, is it a case of getting an ISO and burning it to a disc to use the repair functionality of it?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

TheDenzil95, Have you checked to see if Aero itself is enabled?

I don't quite understand what your saying to me. Please explain, how would I check this? (Apart from looking at the visuals)

Try this, scroll down the page.

You would probably have to look under the theme and check that you were using a aero enabled theme. Windows Basic is the main one that is not.

Have you tried rolling back the graphics drivers?

First thing is to remove SlimDrivers from the computer. Applications like this are known to cause more damage than good to the PC. If you have a branded PC then download the graphics drivers for it from your PC manufacturer website. Next go to Control Panel > Uninstall a Program(Program and Features), uninstall the graphics drivers and its application.
Restart your computer and install the downloaded graphics drivers.

Note: If you could give the name of your computer manufacturer and its model/product number, it will be easier to help.

Thank you for the feedback. I apologise I forgot to out the make and model of my laptop. It's a Samsung R519. I never had much luck finding updates for drivers on the website of the company who made the PC, I assumed the application would help me; I'll stay away from them in the future. Could you perhaps point me in the right direction to get said updates?

I am uninstalling the program and will be restarting soon, thank you Santo for advice.

All the drivers you need for devices that came with your computer can be found on the compute manufacturers site. For non-oem devices go to the device manufacturers site. If they ain't there they ain't anywhere.

I did find the drivers for your computer in Samsung Driver Download Site.
It lists 32 and 64 Bit VGA drivers. You need to select the correct version of it and download.
You can uninstall the existing display drivers from Device Manager too. Go to Start and type Device Manager to launch it, here you will find the display driver listed below 'Display Adapter' click on the + sign and right click on the driver and click on Uninstall. Restart the computer and install the downloaded VGA drivers.

Note: Before you download the above driver, make sure that you have the correct computer model listed on the site.

Erm ok after I uninstalled the graphics driver the screen got larger (I expected that) and went to restart. Once rebooting Windows tried to install a VGA driver itself and it failed, I didn't think it was an issue so I went to install the 32bit Drivers from the Samsung website I downloaded. It claimed I did not have the requirements to install. I checked the Device manager and apparently I have no Display Adapters.

What happened exactly? Seems I've made the problem worse by trying to fix it because now I'm stuck with everything huge.

As mentioned in my previous post, make sure if you had downloaded the correct drivers. The above link was for the computer NP-R519-JA02UK. Also check if your computer has 32 or 64 bit Windows 7 installed in it. To check this go to Start > Right click on 'Computer' Properties > System Type.

I have it is correct. I am unable to start the Setup of the drivers because I get the 'you do not meet the requirements' error. I have fixed an issue like this before with an Ethernet Controller that went amiss. I used the Add New Hardware tool (hdwwiz) to install the drivers and fix it. Am I right to assume this is how I should proceed.

Fixed. I added the device using the New Hardware tool and I installed the device update. Thank you to everybody that replied and thank Santo for the link to the driver updates :)

That's good to know. I am sure that the uninstall and reinstall of the display drivers should have restored the Aero Feature.
